Images from the Cranmer Local History Group

Dark Lane, Whatton-in-the-Vale
Public Domain 1900
Group photograph looking south along Dark Lane from the level crossing at Aslockton Station. The photograph was taken about 1900 and shows Dark Lane in a state of flood. The property in the background is 'The Cottage', now known as the 'White Villa'. As of this date (1st February 2009), The White Villa is still there, planning permission has been granted for it to be demolished. The land on this right has now been built on (in the late 1960's and early 1970s). We do not at this stage know the names of any of the people in the photograph. On the right of the photograph a man is holding a newspaper ('The People') which presumably made some reference to the 'flood'.
