News from the Cranmer Local History Group
|Kath Auckland||Tuesday 13th September 2016|
Nineteen members were in attendance. Gregg Redford welcomed everyone present and thanked them for having made the effort to attend the AGM.
Apologies were received from Sally Baxter, Gordon and Freda Harrison, Steve Ball, Anne Crowley and Brian Tidy.
Approval of last year's minutes
The previous year's minutes had been sent to members by email prior to the meeting. They were accepted as a true record. Proposed by Michael Flinton, seconded by Alan Folwell.
Richard Sharpe reported that although the receipts were up on the previous year by £100 there was a deficit of £60 this year due to the increasing cost of speakers (the average cost now being in the region of £45). However as the finances are healthy he suggested that the subscriptions should remain the same and just monitor the spending on this year's speakers.
The Accounts were approved - proposed by Richard Sharpe and seconded by Gregg Redford.
In the absence of the Secretary her report was read out by the Chairman.
Due to the difficulty of finding new speakers, most of the bookings had been speakers that had been before - the exceptions were Professor John Beckett, David Markham and Dr Colin Groves. A return visit to Cropwell Bishop in July was very poorly attended, possibly due to it being holiday time. In view of this the fixtures team feel it may be better to reduce the number of meetings in the summer months.
There was a summary of last years speakers .
(Michael Flinton added there was an additional event to the programme - a talk in April by Diana Hacker on the Quetta Window in Aslockton Church. 11 people attended.)
Election of Officers
Proposed by Gill Basteble , seconded by Richard Sharpe and unanimously agreed - Gregg Redford to remain as Chairman.
Proposed by Kath Auckland, seconded by Gregg Redford and unanimously agreed - Richard Sharpe to remain as Treasurer.
As there was no one person volunteered for the role of Secretary, the role would be covered by a Team of Rob James, Sue Folwell and Kath Auckland.
Any Other Business
A reminder that subscriptions are now due.
At the suggestion of reducing the number of meetings in the summer, it was generally agreed to miss August and hold the AGM in September which in effect is what happened this year.
Some suggestions made by members were:
· If any one speaker exceeded the "normal" rate perhaps they could be booked and an increase fee paid on the door.
· More posters were needed to advertise the group - in particular one could be put inside the TCC.
· To book 9 speakers for the year and one visit. Because of lack of attendance on the Cropwell Bishop visit, it was suggested to take monies in advance to guarantee a minimum turnout. It was also pointed out that visits need not be on a Tuesday evening.
The Chair announced that after the meeting he would give an informal talk about some interesting facts about Nottingham.
